CAPE TOWN - You might have seen this #MadagascarCure trending on Twitter, but what is this about you ask?
The Madagascar cure, branded as Covid-Organic, is a herbal remedy claiming to cure and prevent Covid-19. The remedy is developed by the Malagasy Institute of Applied Research (IMRA).
President of Madagascar Andry Rajoelina launched the tea supporting all claims. However; the World Health Organisation (WHO) has not announced any support of such allegations instead WHO maintains that there is no cure or vaccine yet, for Covid-19.
Rajoelina said: “Tests have been carried out – two people have now been cured by this treatment. We can change the history of the entire world. This herbal tea gives results in seven days.”
The plant used in the mixture is Wormwood, scientific name being Artemisia, with around 400 various species found throughout the world.
The extract had been handed out on the streets to the public of Madagascar free of charge and made compulsory for all children returning to school.
However, as of yet, the herbal tea has not been scientifically tested and proven to cure or prevent Covid-19 leading to a raging online debate with South Africans taking to Twitter to voice their thoughts.

Many opinions expressed on social media was that South Africa is waiting for a cure from Europe and that the country did not support it's own neighbouring countries while the rest dismissed the idea as there is no scientific evidence supporting the claims of a cure.
