192 more Covid-19 deaths, cases at 215 855

DURBAN - South Africa has recorded 192 more Covid-19 related deaths bringing the total to 3 502, while confirmed positive cases now stand at 215 855, an increase of 10 134.

Of the latest fatalities 15 are from Limpopo, 22 from KwaZulu-Natal, 36 from Eastern Cape, 44 from Western Cape and 75 from Gauteng.

Health minister Zweli Mkhize said that recoveries are at 102 299, which translates to a recovery rate of 47,4%.

Together, the Western Cape and Gauteng account for two-thirds of country's infections, however, the Western Cape has around 600 more confirmed cases at the moment.

Gauteng has detected more than 4,500 new cases in the last 24-hour cycle while the Western Cape reported around 1,200.

More tests are also being conducted, with around 43,000 carried out in just the last day.
