CAPE TOWN- South Africans have been given a seven-day window period to travel to another province under Level 4 of lockdown, but there are strict rules that apply.

Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said anyone who was not at their place of residence, or work before the lockdown period who could not travel between provinces are now able to do so.

Here are 7 things you’ll need to know for interprovincial travel:

This 7-day window of travel opened on Friday, May 1, and closes on Thursday, May 7.

While you may cross a provincial border, all international borders remain closed. This rule only applies to domestic travellers.

You will not need a permit to travel to another province this week, but police will ensure you are compliant with the rules.

It is a once-off allowance and a one way trip so you’ll have to remain in the province you travel to until the end of Level 4.

Under the regulations, you are allowed to travel to another province to attend the funeral of a close relative.

Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula said on Friday that you will not be allowed to use public transport unless you wear a face mask.

Minibus taxis have a 70 percent passenger limit while e-hailing services can hold 50 percent capacity and a five-seater vehicle is permitted to carry a maximum of two passengers and a driver.
