CAPE TOWN –

Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula is calling for a change to South African drinking laws following the deaths of three officers due to a head-on collision with a suspected drunk driver.

The accident happened at the weekend and the government has called on South Africans to be responsible when drinking.

“As a country, we need to review our laws on the access of alcohol. We need to address this as it continues to kill our people on roads and everywhere,” said Mbalula.

“There is over-access for alcohol. People are out of control. We must now put our heads together.

“Alcohol, you can see what it is doing to our country. It is a mess. This over access of alcohol…is over. It must come to an end,” he said.
