CAPE TOWN - The Department of Transport has announced yet another extension on expired vehicle licenses.
The national lockdown came with news of all vehicle licensing expiring within the national lockdown will be given a renewal grace period of 3 months, but as the initial date approached, the Department of Transport announced there will be yet another extension of 90 days from June 1.
Driving licences, vehicle registration licences, learners license and professional driving permits expired or expiring between March 26 - May 31, 2020, were initially given a grace period until June 1.
"All Learner's Licences, driving licence's, temporary drivers licences, motor vehicle licence discs, temporary permits, roadworthy certificates and professional driving permits that expire during the period that commenced from March 26, 2020, up to and including May 31, 2020, are deemed to be valid and their validity period is further extended with 90 Days from June 1, 2020," the Department of Transport said in a statement.
"Motor trade number licences that expire during the period that commenced from March 26, 2020, up to and including May 31, 2020, are deemed to be valid and are extended for a further grace period of six months from the date of publication of these directions."

Although certain testing facilities have been reopened last month, there remained a growing concern with reports of some facilities closing down due to a Covid-19 infection leaving many vehicle drivers concerned about their health and safety with vehicle license renewals requiring a visit to a facility.
The newly appointed grace period ends 3 months after June 1, allowing road users up until September 1 to renew all vehicle licenses required.
