DURBAN – Due to level 3 of the national lockdown regulations, alcohol sales were allowed to resume. The sales of alcohol were restricted to be sold from Monday to Thursday and would not be sold on weekends or public holidays.
In Gauteng, motorists were unable to enjoy their alcohol as it was confiscated during a roadblock, last weekend.
Footage of the Okae Molao roadblock operation shows that Police Minister Bheki Cele was in attendance and participated questioning motorists about the alcohol that was in the vehicles.
The footage drew the attention of social media users who have been questioning the actions of authorities.
According to Johannesburg metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar, who informed News24, the transportation of alcohol is allowed during the stipulated time, from Mondays to Thursdays. However, during the roadblock that took place on Saturday, June 13, the driver of the vehicle transporting the alcohol could not produce a receipt which resulted in the alcohol being confiscated.
