CAPE TOWN - There is no evidence that dogs and cats can be infected with Covid-19 and therefore it cannot be spread to humans through them - FACT.

As the country prepares for the National lockdown from midnight on March 26, for 21 days , we are witnessing low level panic buying and other anxious behavior.

Therefore, it is important to reiterate that pets like dogs and cats cannot be infected with Covid-19 and as a result, cannot spread the virus to humans according to both the World Health Organisation (WHO) and South Africa’s Department of Health.

Dogs and cats do have common bacteria like E. coli and Salmonella which can pass to humans, so its important to wash your hands after contact.

Remember to remain at home during the lockdown, practise good hygiene, play and look after your furry loved ones.
