DURBAN - Broadcast satellite service DSTV has launched a pop-up learning channel for primary school pupils.

The learning channel comes at a time when there is uncertainty around when schools would reopen for the second term.

School closures were announced by South Africa's president Cyril Ramaphosa as a measure to curb the spread of Covid-19

Schools were due to reopen on March 31 but did not, as a result of the lockdown which has been extended to the end of April.

Mindset PoP Primary is available on DSTV channel 317. The learning channel covers the entire General Education and Training (GET) phase, including Early Childhood Development (ECD), as well as a key focus on the Grade 4 to 9 curriculum.

The channel provides live lessons daily and offers Maths Literacy, Numeracy, Life Orientation, Natural Sciences, English, Art and Physical Education. Parents can also download worksheets and additional materials on the Mindset website.

Mindset chief executive Dylan Green said: “We are happy to be working with MultiChoice to spread academic excellence during the lockdown. Though we often focus on matriculants the key concepts are taught at foundation phase. We are looking forward to bringing a whole new and exciting world of learning to DSTV subscribers everywhere."
