CAPE TOWN -

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga published a gazette allowing extra-curricular activities like sport and drama to resume under the Covid-19 safety rules.

The new rules apply to non-contact sport only and can resume without spectators, however, at outdoor venues for inter-school activities there should be no more than 500 people and should not exceed 250 people if indoors.

“The number of persons in the sporting venues, change rooms or training area at any given time must not be more than 50% of the capacity of the venue, with persons observing the social distancing requirements,” read the statement.

Meanwhile, earlier this week Motshekga said that there are additional changes to be made at schools due to a loss in teaching time and the adjustment to the 2020 curriculum.

Going forward, the department will be looking at using body screens so that learners could attend school more regularly.
