A global study published in the journal Cell has found strong evidence of a mutated Coronavirus following outbreaks in Europe and New York.
The team who worked on the study checked genetic sequences and their tests found that the mutated version does not make people sicker, but that it is more infectious than the previous versions.
"It is now the dominant form of infecting people. This is now the virus.
“We do know that the new virus is fitter. It doesn't look at first glance as if it is worse,” Erica Ollmann Saphire told CNN.
Saphire, who worked on the study as part of the team of the La Jolla Institute for Immunology and the Coronavirus Immunotherapy Consortium, added that the next steps would be to check if these changes can be controlled by a vaccine.
Researchers are calling the new version G614.
