SAFTA's host virtual award ceremony due to lockdown regulations

DURBAN - The 14th annual South Africa Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) hosted a virtual awards ceremony via their social media platforms due to the Covid-19 national lockdown regulations. The winners were announced at 22:50pm on Wednesday following technical delays.

The SAFTAs were established in 2005 to celebrate, honour and promote the talent within South Africa’s film and television industry with the guidance of the National Film and Television Foundation (NFVF).

Best Actor and Best Actress in a Telenovela categories won cash prizes of R50 000 sponsored by Kunene Makopo Risk Solutions (KMRS). Crime film,

Knuckle City, was among the big winners of the night taking home six awards.

The public voted for

Hectic on 3’s Entle Bizane for the Best Presenter award and

Imbewu: The Seed for Popular TV Soap/ Telenovela.

Makhosazana Khanyile, NFVF chief executive said: “It is an incredibly bittersweet moment to congratulate all the SAFTAs 14 winners whilst they could not experience a full celebration of their hard work. We thank the industry for understanding and supporting the NFVF in the difficult decisions that had to be made during this crisis and the NFVF is fully committed to ensuring that the industry gets as much support as it needs during a time where livelihoods are heavily impacted."
