DURBAN – One the country's most anticipated horse racing events, the Vodacom Durban July, will be taking a new virtual route due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Vodacom Durban July is set to take place on July 25. Unlike the previous horse racing events, this year's event will not have the fashion show and entertainment that usually comes along with the Vodacom Durban July. However, there will be a live stream for fashionistas to showcase their designs online.

Dave Macleod, Vodacom Durban July’s communications and media relations officer, said the fashion and social aspects of the event would be taking place online via social media and their website. The full horse racing event will be broadcasted on DSTV and Tellytrack.

Macleod said: “We have secured a very experienced panel of top fashion designers to contribute to the live streaming show and VDJ fans will be asked to submit photos and videos of the outfit they would have worn to the big race day and these will be scrutinised and commented on by our expert panel. Everyone wants their outfit to be seen on Vodacom Durban July day. This year we are using technology and creativity to make that possible.

We envisage people hosting their own Vodacom Durban July functions within their homes on Saturday 25 July. They will be asked to send us images and video of their functions as comments and posts to the Vodacom Durban July Facebook page, Twitter and Instagram accounts. Fans will be able to comment on each of the images as they are shown on the live stream show, making it a truly interactive experience.”
