CAPE TOWN -

President Cyril Ramaphosa eased lockdown rules earlier this week which included the restrictions on international travel and alcohol sales.

While Ramaphosa urged South Africans to remain vigilant as most plan to make the most of the summer season, Prof Francois Venter from Wits University shared some tips on how citizens can safely enjoy the holidays.

“There’s no such thing as being completely safe because we are going to be engaging with human beings,” said Venter.

“There are risks when you are going to be walking outside and the most important thing is to keep your distance from people.

“If you are going to be exposed to somebody for more than 15 minutes, that’s when we are going to be worried. So just do things fast if you are going to see people that you don’t see every day,” he said.

Venter added that outdoor activities are the best way to meet others because that’s where the virus gets dispersed very quickly.
