Following Health minister Zweli Mkhize’s announcement over a possible coronavirus resurgence, Western Cape Premier Alan Winde assured that the province is on full alert for a second wave.

According to epidemiological reports, Mkhize said that there’s been an increase of 9.1% in new cases across the country and a 42% spike in the Western Cape.
Winde added that the province has been keeping a close track of the cases and have identified and managed the cluster outbreaks.
“We are very concerned about the relaxed behaviours we have seen which may have led to this increase in cases and we are not the only province experiencing this,” said Winde.
“Any increase is a worry for us and it has our government on full alert and responding. It is important to also note that many of the initial cases linked to the cluster have now recovered and the rate of new infections is starting to decline,” he said.
The premier added that according to research done on other countries, monitoring and tracking are not enough to prevent a resurgence and that everyone needs to actively work on slowing the spread of the virus.
