CAPE TOWN -

In line with the easing of lockdown restrictions for inter-provincial travel, the Western Cape government has launched a “We Are Open” domestic tourism campaign to kickstart the sector.

In collaboration with Wesgro, a tourism and trade company, the campaign urges South Africans to explore the many attractions that Cape Town and the Western Cape has to offer.

“We know times are tough, but if you can, please go out and support our businesses in the Western Cape, particularly those in the tourism and hospitality sector,” said Western Cape Premier Alan Winde.

“Alert Level 2 allows for more economic activity and I want to encourage our residents to support local and small businesses and to always do this safely,” he said.

With the campaign ready to get underway from August 31, Wesgro CEO Tim Harris said the campaign also includes a “Kids Stay Free” initiative at participating accommodations.

“Many people’s international holidays were cancelled due to the lockdown. But the Western Cape is full of experiences that match some of the world’s favourite destinations and we want to show people just how diverse and world-class it truly is,” said Harris.

“And so, this digital campaign will highlight the world-class locations of Cape Town and the Western Cape where you will feel like you could be anywhere in the world.”
