Western Cape's 4th Covid-19 field hospital ready to operate

CAPE TOWN -

Despite the statistics showing a downward trend in Covid-19 deaths in South Africa, the Western Cape continues to be on high alert with its fourth Covid-19 field hospital, Sonstraal Hospital in Paarl ready to receive its first patients.

South Africa has recorded 11 010 deaths and 568 919 Covid-19 related cases.

In preparing for the worst, the Western Cape opened up the Hospital of Hope with a bed capacity of 850, Brackengate R300 field hospital with a capacity of 330 and the Thusong Centre in Khayelitsha which had a bed capacity of 68.

And, the Sonstraal Hospital will provide 60 beds for Covid-19 patients in a phased-in approach.
