CAPE TOWN -

An airline partnership between Global Aviation and Kulula founder Gidon Novick is set to launch its newly-named airline, Lift, before the end of this year.

The company launched an online campaign to find a suitable name and received over 25 000 entries before choosing Lift.

“Some names were thoughtful and inspiring like Ubuntu Air and FlyMzansi,” said Novick.

“Djyrynie and Planey McPlaneface were never going to fly while Gravy Plane must have confused us with another airline,” he said.

Lift is in the process of finalising their pre-launch activities, ensuring their booking system is ready and training crew for liftoff.

Novick said the airline is targeting a cost base that is 30% lower than existing operators and will utilise an all-Airbus A320.

While the company is entering the market during uncertain times for the industry, Novick says this is an opportunity to start fresh and to leverage off record low input costs and an abundance of talented and skilled people.

Passengers are already able to sign up for flight alerts from their
