CAPE TOWN- Specialist physician at Melomed Gatesville Private Hospital, Dr Zaraina Solomons, says that when women put their minds to a task they can achieve anything, including juggling between a successful career and raising a family.

Solomons who is a single mother of three children all under the age of ten, says that working on the Covid-19 front line has been an emotional roller-coaster.

“However, it’s important to find the balance between family and optimal patient care. It’s also important not to forget about yourself. Self-care from an emotional and physical perspective is vital,” she said.

Born and raised in Cape Town, Solomons has worked at Melomed Gatesville since October 2018 and specialises in internal medicine with a special interest in Diabetes Mellitus and infectious diseases.

“I think as women, the most important thing we have to realise is that besides the fact that we are doctors, there are a lot of other things we have to juggle. We are considered to be the primary caregivers to our kids and we often have added responsibilities at home,” she said.

Women’s Day is celebrated annually in South Africa on August 9. On this day, 64 years ago, over 20, 000 brave women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria in an effort to bring about racial equality in society.
