Their plans had come together before the end of March and announced on Facebook in April, that their first soup batch test went as well.

The brewery provides these meals to struggling communities throughout Cape Town, “We serve all communities that have contacted us to the best of our ability, with ideal distribution taking place in 1000-litre flow bins to soup kitchens across the greater Cape Town area.” said Andre Viljoen, owner of Woodstock Brewery.

Some areas identified as in-need are Gugulethu, Khayelitsha, Philippi, Nyanga, and Delft thus far with the soup kitchen looking to expand production and communities reached.

“The situation has become critical. You’ve seen the dejection on the faces of our neighbours in Khayelitsha, Gugulethu, Langa, Dunoon on the news. You’ve read the stories all over your timeline. You know what starvation and desperation can do to someone who had the bare minimum to start with.

In efforts to expand the reach to those in need, the Woodstock Brewery took to Facebook to offer assistance to other breweries interested in giving it a go with all information and recipes.

“The soup kitchen helps us get large amounts of food to the hungry. It’s easy to fund through large donations from many friends on our social media and in personal relationships.” said Viljoen
