WATCH: Healthcare workers surprised with a display of flowers

CAPE TOWN - Healthcare workers were in for a surprise with a display of flowers spelling 'heroes' outside Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital in Parktown, Johannesburg.

Gauteng has been the Covid-19 epicenter in South Africa with frontline healthcare workers fighting the surge in infections there was a little surprise waiting for them as a thank you for all they are doing for the province.

Ubuntu Beds and Together We Bloom, got together to demonstrate appreciation for frontline healthcare workers with a flower display consisting of 250 pink potted Cyclamen forming the word 'heroes' with the installation right outside the hospital entrance.

Ubuntu Beds, an NGO that aims to provide accommodation to healthcare workers during the pandemic and Together We Bloom, an NPO that's initiative raises funds for less fortunate communities through the sale of flowers and plants.

Healthcare workers have become an essential part to fighting Covid-19 with Ubuntu Beds recognising this and all the challenges that come with such line of work with many nurses and doctors exposed to the virus leading to a strong possibility of transmission along with the challenges of long working hours and travel time to and from home, the initiative aims to take care and protect healthcare workers and their families by providing comfortable accommodation for those in need.
