CAPE TOWN - Schools are closed and companies are encouraging employees to work from home due to the Coronavirus outbreak, but how does this affect working conditions?

Social media has been buzzing as people from across the country are finally getting the opportunity to work from home. Working remotely is not a new trend and has been around for quite some time. However, this big shift which is currently taking place does not come at the easiest of times as children and babies are home as well due to the closing of schools and Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres.

Parents are now not only forced to adjust to their new working environment but also need to come up with ideas to keep their youngsters occupied. The benefits of working from home do outweigh the negatives as workers won’t waste time sitting in traffic, they are flexible in moving around, more time is spent with families and all-in-all a better quality of life comes with the freedom of working remotely.

To make a smooth adjustment in working remotely, one has to consider that load shedding can happen at any instance, therefore you always need to ensure your laptop is fully charged and that you have a backup internet option.
