Rainbow Water

This fun and colourful experiment will help you teach your children about the different forms of matter and their densities.

Materials:

• 4 drinking glasses

• Measuring Jug

• Food Dye (4 Colours)

• Water

• Sugar

• 4 Syringes

• 4 Spoons

• 1 Glass Jar

Fill each glass with 100ml of warm water and add 3 drops of different food dye to each glass. Stir the solution. Add 3 tablespoon of sugar to the colour you want to add to the bottom of the jar, then add 2 tablespoons of sugar to the next colour and 1 tablespoon of sugar to the next. The last colour will have no sugar and will be placed at the top of all the other colours. Stir until all the sugar dissolves. Using the Syringe, add 20ml of the colour you want at the bottom of the jar. Repeat for the next 3 the colours in descending order pertaining to the amount of sugar added to each colour.
