CAPE TOWN -

The Coronavirus global pandemic has left a trail of unemployment, closed businesses and a tourism industry that’s fighting for survival.

Covid-19 is not going away anytime soon and its impact will have a lasting effect.

However, once the dust starts to settle, South Africa will face an unemployment pandemic as the economy attempts to recover and citizens adapt to the new normal and future jobs.

“We need to fight the second pandemic with equal determination and courage. We have to give the private sector the space to help us do this,” said Western Cape Premier Alan Winde.

“We must be under no illusion that if we don’t do this now, this second pandemic will gain more and more momentum, being increasingly difficult to turn around.

“We are not a first world country, and we do not have reserves to spend ourselves out of this global crisis,” he said.
