DURBAN - A 5-month-old baby is the first infant to die from Covid-19 in KwaZulu-Natal. The Health Department said in a statement that this was its first paediatric death since the start of the pandemic in the country.
The department stated that: "KZN recorded its first paediatric death since the beginning of the pandemic. The deceased is a five-month-old, who was admitted with tuberculosis".
The infant’s death was on of the 17 deaths that had been recorded from the province, on Monday, July 6. The province has a total of 205 Covid-19 deaths with 4890 people recovering from the virus.
The major districts that have been infected by Covid-19 are the eThekwini District with approximately 335 cases daily and the uMgungundlovu District with approximately 72 cases daily.
According to the department, KwaZulu Natal only contributed 9% of the new cases and it is the fourth highest province in the country. "The province continues to experience an upsurge in cases, with eThekwini and uMgungundlovu districts recording 60% of the daily cases. "The province recorded 17 new Covid-19 related deaths in four different districts."
