CAPE TOWN -

At the weekend, gamers from around the world live-streamed on Twitch and YouTube to help raise funds for the Cango Wildlife Ranch in Oudtshoorn.

The final numbers are yet to be released, however, the goal was to raise R50 000 t help feed over 4 000 animals at the ranch.

Gamers from as far as Canada, Germany and Malaysia logged on to help raise awareness for the conservation facility which is home to over 90 endangered species.

“Like many such facilities, we have been very hard hit by the lockdown and have been fundraising since the start,” said campaign organiser Garrett Eriksen.

“It’s just like a TV show or radio show where they raise funds for a cause. The point of video game streams is not to watch games, it’s to interact with the streamer.

“People watch streams to be entertained. And while they’re watching, streamers raise awareness of the ranch and share links where you can donate,” he said.

The Wildlife Ranch previously raised R100 000 through a similar event in April.
